Top 10 Skincare Tips from Lavenglow Organics

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

Here for you we have our top 10 skincare tips to help you get that glowing, radiant, looking-like-glass skin you desire! Remember your skincare journey is just that! A journey. Elements like your hormones (whether via pregnancy, postpartum, menstrual cycles, etc ), stress, change in environment or change in the seasons can all have major effects on your skin! Give yourself grace during whatever journey you are on and treat your skin as best as you can all the time!

1. Wash your face before bed!! 🙏🏾 Always. Every night!! Wash off any make up, bacteria and just the stress from your day! If it helps, look at this as a spiritual cleansing as well as one to promote your best skin!

Our suggested routine:

✅ Wash face with your favorite non-toxic cleanser, our favorite is from a Black Femme Owned Brand called Brown & Coconut

✅ Tone skin with Lavenglow’s Hydrating Empress Toner either by spritzing it on or apply with cotton pads if you have extra oily skin or are acne prone

✅ Apply a vitamin C, hyaluronic acid serum, or a retinol (at night). I love this one from Eminence Organic Skincare. Or you can use a serum with Salicylic Acid if you are acne prone to help eat away at the bacteria. One i've been using for my postpartum acne is this one from Eminence Organic Skincare

✅ Apply an eye cream (I love this 100% pure's brightening cream)

✅ Apply a couple drops Lavenglow’s Goddess Glow Facial Serum as moisturizer while skin is still slightly damp from toner & serums 🔆😍🤗✨ . .

2. Weave skin care into your morning & night time routines 🙏🏾. It is an essential, and rather simple, part of maintaining clear and glowing skin. Think of it as self-care and a ritual that honors your divine vessel.

3. Wash or change your pillow case at least 1x a week. Keeping your pillow cases clean is another big part of good skin care. Your face touches your pillow every night, all night. Make sure it’s a clean surface. I usually try to wash my sheets weekly but if the whole sheets don’t make it into the washer, my pillow cases usually do! . Bonus tip ✨: satin & silk pillow cases aren’t just good for your strands ➿ they are also great for clear skin and can help prevent wrinkles since your skin isn’t pulling against cotton for 6-8 hours a night ✨ . Find some of my favorite satin pillow cases here

4. Drink water!!! Stay hydrated, my loves! We know the human body is made up of an abundance of water. If you aren’t hydrated enough your body will pull the water it needs to its most vital organs and the last organ that gets the moisture you need will be your skin! 😱 While necessary intake depends on several personal factors (such as height, body weight, activity level, temperature, etc) guidelines indicate about 12-16 cups of water a day as adequate daily intake

5. Take a Collagen supplement. Collagen is actually the most abundant protein in mammals bodies. Unfortunately we make less collagen as we age, with height of productivity being around mid-20s. The quality and amount of collagen the body produces declines around age 25. This depletion occurs faster with exposure to smoking, UV lights & high sugar consumption.

To be honest, collagen topically doesn’t do much for the skin so don’t fall for products claiming they’ve added in collagen (it’s just a buzz word in skin care at this point). But taking collagen orally really helps replenish your body and can improve skin elasticity several times over! Try to aim for good clean supplements!

I take Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (unflavored) and add a scoop into my morning coffee each morning! Find it here or check at Costco for a great deal! Not only is collagen great for the skin but it’s also good for joints, bones, muscle tissue & can help speed healing after birth.

6. Eat the rainbow - fruits, veggies & healthy fats. 🍌🌽🍊🥕🍎🍓🍇🍆🥝🥦🥑🫐Incorporate whole, nutrient rich foods into your diet. Obviously the less processed, fried, or high sugar foods the better but I’m not saying deprive yourself. I’m saying lower your toxic load by getting in the things your body needs to thrive and then… ya know… treat yo self in moderation.

7. Lower your stress. Whatever you need to do to lower your stress - do it! Meditate, workout, laugh, go for a walk in nature, practice radical acceptance and incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine. Stress is not only one of the top factors in all major illnesses but we’ve all been there when stress shows up in the form of a huge pimple in the middle of our forehead right before an important event! Lowering your stress lowers the toxicity in your body both on a physical and an emotional/mental level. Just by not holding so much stress in the body, we can help our good nutrients go towards our skin, instead of combatting the havoc stress wreaks on our immune system and adrenals! Check out our YouTube video on lowering your toxic load here and our video on Epigenetics - the study of how our genes express themselves and the impact stress and our own beliefs can have on our own health here

8. Wear sunscreen. No matter the amount of melanin you have, you need to protect it from damaging UV rays. One of my favorite non-toxic sunscreens I use on my daughter and myself is this Babo Botanical's SPF 30 Spray sunscreen. I find it doesn't leave a strong white cast if you quickly rub it in as soon as you apply it! Another amazing sunscreen that isn't fully clean but doesn't have some of the icky stuff most sunscreens do is Black Girl Sunscreen (Oxybenzone and Paraben free). If you have deeper skin this glides on with NO white cast. It's truly amazing for melanin!

9. Do at least a monthly face mask/facial. Whether that be a mud mask that detoxifies pores, a sheet mask that imparts moisture and hydration, or investing in a facial done by an esthetician. Your skin will thank you for a little extra love routinely now and again. Face masks don't need to be extravagant, expensive nor do they have to take up a ton of time and effort. But trust me, this step is one that will keep your skin glowing. Check out our favorite at-home DIY facial mask that packs a punch here.

10. Make sure to exfoliate. Another step that doesn’t need to be hard, expensive or extravagant. But for your best skin, it absolutely should be done! Your skin sloughs off dead and that dead skin does need to be removed every once in a while to keep a glowing complexion. Do your research and make sure to take notice of your body/skin cues as you try different exfoliants and different intervals of exfoliating. Harsher exfoliation measures like skin peels shouldn’t be done more than every month to every couple months while lighter exfoliants are best used every 2-3 days. A lot of people will either over exfoliate or not exfoliate at all. Don’t be those people. My favorite exfoliant has been the Brightening Face Polish from Brown & Coconut for quite a while!

Incorporating these steps can have major positive impacts on your skin and will aid your body in detoxing to boot! If you aren't great at self-care or you don't have a specific self-care routine, incorporating any or all of these steps is an excellent way to jump into treating yourself well. Treat your skin well, treat YOU well!
